Universalmuseum Joanneum is a group of 20 museums and one zoo at 14 sites in Graz and across Styria. The collections cover history, art, culture, technology and natural history, and the group also runs exhibitions, educational programmes and research.

The museum serves the general public, school and kindergarten groups, and young people. The website lists tickets, an event calendar, educational offers and venue rental. It is operated by Universalmuseum Joanneum GmbH, a non-profit company, since its conversion from a state department in 2003, while the collections remain owned by the State of Styria.

The institution was founded in 1811 by Archduke Johann and describes itself as Austria's oldest and second-largest museum. It reports around 600 employees and more than half a million visitors per year. Its managing directors since 2023 are Dr. Marko Mele and Mag. Josef Schrammel. Three open positions are listed: a kitchen manager in Stübing, an educator for the CoSA science centre in Graz, and a carpentry foreman in Graz.
